Trip to London for the 5th wedding anniversary . Day one

Rockmount at Crystal Palace

Everything is blooming and the air smells of warm spring rain and flower pollen. The streets are wet, but bathed in the sun, and at every step you can hear the chatter of children in uniforms coming home from school. From the front deck window of the first-ever doubledecker bus we're riding through the picturesque lanes from Tooting Bec to our temporary home at Crystal Palace, I keep pointing out the lilacs, agates, chestnuts, white, pink, yellow, red and blue bushes in bloom, whose name I don't even know, and my beloved wisteria and in my mind I imagine how I would like to take my dream photos in them.

I'm always smiling and enjoying every moment because we came back to see London for a few days after five years. I have never been in love with London as much as with the nature of the British Isles, myths and legends, history, magic, poetry, literature and paintings, but nevertheless, the contrast of London can enchant a person.

Although we planned the anniversary trip a few months ago, in the end we decided more or less at the last minute. The biggest problem was to arrange passports as the UK is no longer in the European Union. For a fee, we managed to do it in a few days. It always surprises me that thanks to the air connection from Poprad, we can get to London in less time than to Bratislava and even for the same money. The flight took two and a half hours to Luton Airport, where in recent years they have built a direct link to the train station, so we could travel comfortably across London to our accommodation. Price-wise, maybe especially during the week, it would be worth it to order an Uber or Bolt via the app, in the end it was only slightly more expensive. The best tip we got that I have to share with you is to use same payment card or payment method (mobile phone or watch) at the turnstiles when entering any public transport. It will make your search, time and money easier.

In the end, the doubledecker brought us right in front of the entrance to the house in which we had booked accommodation for a few days through Airbnb. When we saw the house with our own eyes, we found ourselves staring petrified with open mouths (so it blew our lids off). It was the most beautiful Airbnb we've ever seen and we didn't regret a single penny, because it was only a little more expensive than the kitchen dash bathroom - accommodation near the Crystal Palace park, which had a glass shower cabin located next to the kitchen counter, which you had a direct view of from the bed. With a difference of 20 euros per night, we could either be in one room, kitchen dash bathroom or in a wonderful 150-year-old Gothic villa.

Rockmount is a Grade 2 listed Gothic building in the heart of Crystal Palace, which was acquired by its lovely owners 6 years ago, having languished untouched for 40 years. In addition to the married couple and their sub-tenant, we had five beautiful springer spaniels who wished us good morning every day when we left.

The owner, Roya (wonderful name, by the way), led us to the top floor to five doors reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland deciding which to step into, and showed us to our room with a bathroom reminiscent of a Hogwarts dormitory. We never made it so that we would spend the entire time of our stay in the room, but here it was offered. Soak in a free-standing brass tub with bubbles and relax in a king-size bed under a soft blanket. (We don't normally take photos of toilets, but face it, this one was a work of art.)

Traveling and unpacking took most of the day, which we didn't expect, we were tired, but we decided to go explore the surroundings. The weather was typically English, the sun came out, it got cloudy, it blew, it rained and the sun came out again. Just like in the Tatras. We bought some basic groceries at the local store, we read on the notice board of the civic center that there are a lot of burglaries in the area, and after dinner in a nearby pub, we decided to take a bath full of bubbles.
