A night in the hobbit house
A few years ago, one of our friends built a hobbit house deep in the woods below the Tatras, and we were lucky enough to enjoy its cozy atmosphere, escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature.
The hobbit house, hidden from the eyes of curious passers-by or tourists, where only a wild animal or a lost mushroom picker wanders, is surrounded by a dense forest full of ferns, rolling hills and with a nearby panoramic view of the High Tatras, where you feel that God resides there. This peaceful escape from the world was built several kilometers from the city or roads and it took us a few hours of walking to reach it. Up the hill, down into the valley, past the pond and up into the woods again, we felt exactly like Frodo and Sam on their way to Mordor. Fortunately, I knew the path well from previous visits, because navigating by memory and turning at the right tree stump is a path only for the right adventurer.
We climbed the last hill to the most beautiful view of the Tatras, where we took a break to enjoy the sunset. We left the view behind and waded through the green ferns. When we arrived at the place, we had the last few rays of daylight left, so we collected wood suitable for a fire in the area, and since this cozy retreat was built with a romantic and practical fireplace inside, we could warm the house beautifully and enjoy the fire at the same time and bake dinner on it. The smell spread far and wide, and our stomachs were already twisting and drooling after the strenuous journey.
Clouds were rolling overhead, night descended on the treetops, the forest sank into silence where only occasionally could be heard the hooting of an owl or rustling of leaves, and we spread out our mats and sleeping bags and while Wolf fell asleep on my feet, we talked by the last smoldering log late into the night. We are not demanding on accommodation conditions. All we need is a sleeping bag, Wolf and millions of stars above our heads. Therefore, the night in the hobbit house was one of our most beautiful experiences.
